I say this because I’ve been there. Not just as someone who works with anxiety professionally, but as someone who has lived through its grip—so deeply that at one point, I couldn’t imagine living a full life again.
My Journey Through Anxiety
There was a time when being in front of people felt impossible. Just the thought of someone looking at me was enough to send my mind spinning. Speaking to others—or worse, speaking my mind—felt like stepping into a storm without shelter.
Even everyday tasks became unbearable. Shopping, for instance, was terrifying. The moment a shop assistant approached me with a kind smile, I would freeze. My chest would tighten, and my brain would scream, “Run!” I often did—leaving behind the items I’d come for, along with any sense of normality.
At my lowest, anxiety consumed every aspect of my life. It stripped joy from the things I used to love and left me feeling hollow. How did I get here? For an extended period of time I gave someone too much power over my emotional state. I let someone else’s behaviour break me down over a decade, leaving me shattered, scared, and unsure of how to move forward.
But I did move forward. Slowly, and with great effort, I found my way through the darkness. And as daunting as the journey was, it gave me something anxiety never wanted me to have: my strength, my confidence, and a renewed sense of freedom.
The Way Through
